We are located in the centre of Dartmouth on the north embankment opposite the band stand in a small kiosk clearly marked “Dartmouth Boat Hire Centre”. The River Dart is a very beautiful deep-water river, which is bordered by stunning high-sided hills. The river is enchanting and has numerous creeks to explore. There are places to stop and eat a picnic or little jetties to moor against whilst you take a trip to the pub for a leisurely lunch.
A favourite trip enjoyed by many takes in Dartmouth Castle, and then up to Dittisham village for a pub lunch and some crabbing for the kids. This is only about 1 ½ hours of boating, and then add on the length of time you need for your stop. You can often spy a seal on this trip; a favourite place for them to play is just to the east of the anchor stone mark, near Dittisham. If the tide is right, you can take the boats up as far as Totnes, this is really a full days journey. The river is wonderful further upstream, and you pass places such as Stoke Gabriel and Sharpham on route. If the tide is with you, you can stop in at the café by the waters edge at Stoke Gabriel, and pop into Sharpham to taste some cheese and wine. There are plenty of mooring buoys which you can stop at and pick up for an hour or too, if you are bringing a picnic, or wanting to fish. To my mind this is boating at its leisurely best.
