Self steer hire boats have been operating from this location for around 50 years and have afforded thousands of people every year the opportunity to explore the beautiful river Dart at their own pace, as if it were there own boat.  

Our boats are available to hire for the duration of 2 hours, 3 hours, 4 hours and 6 hours during the day time, starting at 10am with the last hire at 2pm finishing at 4pm. We sometimes accommodate evening hires, please contact us via email for requests for evening hires.

No license is required to take a boat out, we do however have to ensure that the hirer has appropriate capabilities in oneself .(we do give FULL instructions) 

 We have boats available and licensed for parties of any size up to 8 people. 

As far as Dittisham (First village up stream and home to the Ferry Boat Inn) is navigable at any state of the tide. Beyond Dittisham access is dependent on the state of the tide. Please ask for more details via email. riverdartboats@gmail.com

 Our boats are rigorously maintained and are regularly updated, 

all boats are inspected and licensed by the Harbour Authority, They all come with Oar/s, Shaft, fire extinguisher, first aid kit, baler, anchor and warp and a full tank of fuel. 

We provide Inflatable life jackets for adults and big teenagers, and flotation life jackets for children, a comprehensive safety briefing on the river and the safe use of the boat, and friendly instruction all given by trained staff. 

Prices include fuel (other than for long hires, ie more than one full day), life jackets, river chart and a comprehensive information pack. 

PLEASE NOTE. Advance bookings are not accepted over the phone, they must be made via the online booking form.
